Description: The project is the largest water desalination plant on Australia's eastern seaboard. The plant has the capacity to supply up to 133 megaliters a day of pure drinking water to SE Queensland.

Comments: The state government passed a regulation that named the Gold Coast City Council as the Service Provider to undertake all works reasonably connected to the construction of the desalination plant. The GCD Alliance (made up of several different designers, construction companies, suppliers, etc) is often referred to as a single entity that will design build operate and maintain the facility.

Checkbox Checked Land: In June 2008, the State Government purchased Gold Coast City Council's shares in the Gold Coast Desalination Project. This now owned by Water Secure, whose sole shareholder is the Queensland Goverment. It appears that the Water Secure company is orchestrating the construction and maintenance of the desalination plant.
