Description: When the Isle of Wight council became a unitary authority in 1995, it became responsible for the whole Isle's waste collection, which had previously been split between two Borough councils and a county council. The management project aimed to conserve the little landfill resources on the island by increasing recyling and recovery rates, which jumped from 28% to 45% after three years of operation. Services include domestic waste collection, composting, municipal solid waste treatment, and collection and disposal of recyclable waste.
