The crossing includes a 1088 meter long cable-stayed bridge in the central portion, which is the longest in the world. The new crossing replaces a 4 hour ferry ride between Nantong and Shanghai with a 1 hour drive.

Direct Cash Support: 35% of project cost came from local governments of Jiangsu province, Suzhou City, and nantong City. Remainng funds were secured via loans from domestic banks. Tolls and fares collected will be used to pay back the loans.
