Description: Kay Bailey Hutchison plant. Largest inland water desalination plant in the world, producing 27.5 million gallons of fresh water daily for the El Paso Water Utilities Board and for Fort Bliss. The project takes and treats unusable, brackish water from the Hueco Bolson aquifer on the east side of the Franklin Mtns.

Comments: Design was Fast-Tracked. Construction commenced before completion of design. 15 mgd of brackish groundwater is treated by reverse osmosis, and then blended to 12.5 mgd of usable groundwater from the Mesilla Bolson aquifer. Concentrate from desalination is injected 3500 into ground, with no interference to ground water. Result is a net recharge of the Heco Bolson aquifer.
