Checkbox Checked Environmental Clearance: Chlorine was previously manufactured at the site using a mercury based technology. Between 1975 and 1993, approximately 900 tonnes of mercury accumulated in the soil. Between 2002 and 2004, a US EPA funded cleanup program collected and buried mercury related contamination in a sarcophagus landfill nearby. Ongoing monitoring continues thorugh 2020. The new facilities are nearby, but not at the same exact site.
