Description: On October 4, 2004, Columbus Water Works (CWW) assumed ownership, maintenance and operation of the Fort Benning, GA wastewater system as well as the drinking water system. CWW’s implementation plan involved operation of the two (2) existing wastewater treatment plants at Fort Benning for a period of two years until capital improvements could be made to the system allowing all of the Fort Benning wastewater flow to be transported via pipeline from Fort Benning to the existing 67 million gallons per day CWW South Columbus Water Resource Facility. The project involved installing two (2) sewage pumping stations and force mains along with gravity collection lines to the pumping stations so that the old plants could be decommissioned.
