Description: Innovative $131 million replacement of existing Bridge over the Ohio River. A new 3181 foot long truss will be moved along steel rails and plates across the piers of the existing bridge to slide the new bridge into place during a 10-day bridge closing. The method is called "truss sliding". The original project opened in December 1929 as a $1million project requiring a $.45 automobile toll and a $.05 pedestrian toll. Twenty years after opening, tolls were removed from the bridge. Despite multiple rehabilitations, the 20-ft wide bridge is deteriorating.
