Description: Program that is now moving forward in the planning stage -- funded by AARA federal stimulus funds. The CHSR program including installing 2,200 miles of rail; 3.5 million square feet of buildings and facilities; 6,500 miles of electrical wires and cable; and more than 200 grade separations. 189 to 220 miles in the initial segment are expected to be constructed on elevated structures or in tunnel. 2010 estimates for the entire program were $36.4 billion. the 2012 draft Business Plan lists estimated cost between $65 and 74 billion, for Full Phase 1 build. This does not include sections to Sacramento north from Merced, nor sections from Los Angeles south to San Diego.
