Description: Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) project to bring the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) across the East River into Grand Central Terminal in mid-town Manhattan. Under construction and expected to be complete in 2016. The new connection extends bfrom Sunnyside, Queens through the lower level of the existing 63rd Street Tunnel under the East River. In Manhattan, a new tunnel will be constructed at the western end of the existing tunnel at Second Avenue, curving under park Avenue to a new LIRR terminal under Grand Central Station.
