Rodanthe (NC) Bridge
Year in Operation:
Design / Construction
New Jug-Handle Bridge that moves a 2.4 mile portion of route NC-12 from a very narrow section of the NC Outer Banks to a route that is away from the Atlantic Ocean on Pamlico Sound. The project is a difficult compromise of environmental issues at the southern end of the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and the need to increase the chance that NC-12 stays open during hurricane and tropical storm events. Flatiron is the design-builder, in partnership with designer RK&K.
